The first few years of the real world.

It’s Friday…

At least for me it is. Originally, we were planning on moving in on the 15th, but lucked out, and were able to move last Sunday. As a result, I’ve gotten almost everything that is in the condo unpacked, At this point, all I have left is about 6 boxes in the garage, and I’ll be bringing those up tonight, to work on them. Anyway, since we were going to move in on the 15th, I decided that I was going to take a 4 day weekend to get settled, and now, I get to take a 4 day weekend to have some fun.

So, basically, the plans for the next four days include:

Getting internet installed
Riff Raff Theater at the Englert
Master’s Yoga Class and Smoothies
Plasma
Cleaning Andy’s House
Heath’s Birthday
Yoga workshop on Sunday
Cavities filled on Monday
Part-time job on Monday

All in all, one of the least busy weekends I’ve had in a long time. :D

Movin’ Out

I’m supposed to hear from my landlord sometime today about doing a walk-through, and after that is done, Bridgette and I can officially take possession of our new condo. :). It’s been a long time coming now–we signed our lease, back in May, and have been waiting incredibly patiently to be able to get settled. We also managed to score some awesome deals on furniture from our landlord, and as a result, we’ve managed to completely outfit the place with the furniture that we needed for less than $200.

I’ll be sad to leave the house that I’m living in now, as there is some unfinished tension/business between one of the people that I’m living with, but at the same time, I think it’ll be easier to either resolve or ignore it once I’m not living here.

In other news, life has been going incredibly well. I’m down 25 pounds now, which puts me at another 30 to go. I’ve never been so successful in losing weight in the past, which means I must finally be doing something right, with the way that I’ve approached it. Work is going great — we have finally hit full speed on recruitment, and are meeting all sorts of people in our travels to their homes. The love life? Finally existant! I’ve been very gaurded since things with Nic and I ended, due to the very nature of that relationship, but I’ve found someone that I have a wonderful time with, and automatically leave my guard down for. As my mom says, he’s OLD :P, but at the same time, I’m not finding the age difference between us to be a problem.

Anyway, I just figured I should pop in over here, let everyone know I’m still alive, and start getting ready for a VERY long day.

20 pounds down!!!

So, as of May 1st, I weighed in at 212 pounds.

On July 20th, I weighed in at 192.

Below the cut are some before and after pictures. Needless to say, I’m pretty happy with myself right now(forgive the doofy look on my face. Despite my mom’s comments, I can garauntee that it’s not always there:P).

And it’s done…

Minus a few boxes sitting in my car that need to come into Ginny’s house, I am officially done with move part 1. We had an awesome crew this morning. My roommate and I, Maria, my roommate’s cousin and boyfriend, as well as Tom and Heath. I got the truck to my house at 7:35 this morning. By 9:45 this morning, the truck was completely empty. Considering I had rented the truck until 4 pm, when I showed up at 10:30 this morning to return it, they were a bit shocked.

Since we got done so early, I went over to the yearly yoga picnic…our yoga instructor rents a volleyball net, and tells everyone to show up with food. I made a quick stop over at the co-op to pickup some hummus and chips, and then made it over to College Green Park. Had a quick snack, just as the volleyball game was starting up. We get through a game or two of fun volleyball before it turns competitive. I take it easy during the fun rounds–most people there don’t know that v-ball is one of my favorite sports, but as soon as the competition was on, we were all ramping it up. 2 games later, I hit a particularly hard bump, too close to my wrist joint. I knew it as soon as it happened, but figured I’d play through the pain. I made it through another game and a half, and half-jokingly said to my chiro as he walked up that I had just screwed up my hand…

After we made it through three competitive games, all of us sat down to have some cookies. 20 minutes go by, and my hand is still tingly. Everyone decides to play a boy vs. girl game, when I decide I’m going to sit out/go home. My chiro’s wife asks if I’m going to play, and I tell her no, and why, and she grabs him right away. He sits me down, resets a bone in my wrist that dislocated, and tells me to ice it, 20 minutes on when it hurts, and that he’ll see me tomorrow.

Now? It hurts like a bitch. Bleh.

Wow, it’s here…

Way back in May, I signed a lease on a condo in Iowa City. The thought was two bedrooms meant 1 roommate, and 2 dogs between the two of us in a manageable space.  Well, as always, there was a catch. The lease starts on August 15th. Nearly every lease in IC, including mine, runs out on July 30th. As a result, I had to find a place to live in the meantime, as well as a place to store my stuff. Our landlord has been absolutely awesome, and is letting us store our stuff in the garage. I’ve lucked out in the past month, as I’ve become really close with a friend of mine who also has a dog, and is letting me stay with her for the month.

So, now, I’m at the hard part. I have to simultaneously move all my stuff into storage, and over to Ginny’s, not go crazy, and finish packing before this all happens! I have rented the u-haul for 7 am on Saturday morning. Friday night, I’m moving the essentials that I’ll need for the next month, as well as Reya over to Ginny’s. After that, it’s back here to finish packing/organizing(because of course, I am so anal retentive that I won’t let people touch my stuff unless it is properly packed), getting a few hours of catnap, then picking up the truck.

Here’s to hoping that I can get everything done!!!

Icing on the cake…

One of the dogs in my house ATE MY GLASSES TODAY.

I am so fucking livid, I’m beyond words.

I’m going to go to lenscrafters tomorrow to see if anything can be done…I’m guessing that I’ll get 50% off of retail, now here’s to hoping I can get the exact same frames, since one of my lenses is still fully intact.

Figuring with their 50% off, if I can get the same frames, it’s going to be $215 to fix it.

*cries*

*sigh*

I am exhausted. The hardcore, can’t sleep when I want to, always on the go exhausted. I have been dealing with a lot of things lately that aren’t really mine to solve, as well as a few things that are.

I think I’m going to do a new version of this site soon, but given that I have to pack all of my belongings and move in 9 days, it’s going to take some time to get there.

In good news, ghetto van found another life…it’s bounced back more times than most cats!

This repair? $6.

Last Day

It’s my last day in Hawai’i…our flight leaves at 10 pm tonight. Until then, I’m having one last day of swimsuit, tank top, flip flops, and sarong, and taking a relaxing day of shopping at the old town markets. Tammy and I are skipping out on the volcano, since neither one of us can currently fit our feet into closed toe shoes.

I’ve already found a vacation rental that I plan on returning to next year, and will be putting the deposit down on it in September. I’m likely just looking for one other person to go with, but knowing how beautiful this island has been, I may just return on my own :).

Hi all! I’m heading up to Minneapolis-St. Paul tonight, and starting tomorrow morning, I’m making the long(3 flights!) journey to the Big Island of Hawaii! I’ll be uploading my photos at the end of the day each day, and they can be, and they will be easy to find, at the link below.

Seeya on the 27th!

Life Update, bullet style!

  • I have a new job! I work at the university, as a research assistant, with an awesome boss and co-worker, on a brand new project.
  • Tis wedding season. I leave for Hawaii next Tuesday, and I’ll be back on the 26th. I’m a bridemaid in Chelsea’s wedding, and I get to explore the big island while we’re there for a week.:D
  • On a sad note, KJ’s wedding is now off. I’d be much more sad if the guy had been perfect for her, but it’s a learning experience, and I think she’s going to come out much stronger than she went into the mess.
  • Iowa City is flooding like crazy. Maria and I went to the Coralville Spillway last night, which is predicted to overflow between 6 and 7 am tomorrow. The last time it overflowed? During the floods of 1993. Because of some poor decisions that were made in regards to the Iowa River as of late, it is expected to be MUCH worse this time around. Tomorrow night, we’re going to go help with the sandbagging effort straight after work.
  • I’ve taken up yoga in the past month, and have seen major changes in the way that I feel, and look. I have triceps! I know this is going to be a long and slow process, but it’s been over a month since I started, and I’m not feeling discouraged at all.
  • Did I mention Hawaii? :D
